Classes Begin This September
Fridays 6:00 to 7:30 PM
Saint Athanasios Greek School’s mission is to teach the Greek language so that the students can fluently converse and function in a Greek speaking environment. Our curriculum and instruction will also be consistent with the Greek culture, history and heritage, all of which reinforce Orthodox Christian values and will prepare our students, the next generation, to be active members of our church family.
Our program is divided into 3 levels for all ages.
Level 1 – Beginner
Level 2 – Intermediate
Level 3 – Advanced
Objectives for Level 1- Beginner
- Recognize all the letters of the Greek alphabet and their sounds.
- Be able to write the upper and lower case letters of the Greek alphabet
- Learn colors and shapes
- Learn the numbers 1 to 20
- Learn common objects
- Be able to speak in short sentences
- Recite the Lord’s Prayer
- Hymns that relate to our church and the feast days throughout the year
Objectives for Level 2- Intermediate
- Be able to recognize and read vowel blends and their sounds
- Learn the numbers 20 to 100
- Be able to write sentences of 3 to 4 words.
- Increase vocabulary base by reading and speaking
- Learn how to use the correct article in agreement with noun’s gender.
- Be able to engage in simple conversation regarding themselves, the weather, common themes, holidays, everyday expressions
- Recite the Lord’s Prayer
- Hymns that relate to our church and the feast days throughout the year
Objectives for Level 3 – Advanced
- Be able to recognize and read more words to continue to increase vocabulary base.
- Writing more complex sentences
- Count by 10’s
- Be able to conjugate verbs through speaking and repetition
- Be able to engage in conversation that is ongoing by asking questions and answering questions, through proper use of grammar.
- Learn to recite the Creed in Greek
- Hymns that relate to our church and the feast days throughout the year
At all levels an audio component will be available to students to practice vocabulary, grammar and conversation of their current classroom lesson. The audio will be part of the week’s homework assignment and will be available via a password protected part of our Church’s website. Daily repetition of the new vocabulary, grammar and conversation is a key component to developing fluency of the Greek language. Students will also have traditional homework to practice reading and writing.
Tuition Rates:
One student: $330 | Two students: $630 | Three students: $900 | Four students: $1000
Tuition rates only applicable for Saint Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church stewards in good standing.
Youth programs will follow Greek School classes starting at 7:30 pm. Educational ministries will be held simultaneously from 6:30-7:30 pm for those who are not enrolled in Greek School.
