WELCOME TO SAINT ATHANASIOS
We are a community of Orthodox Christians dedicated to fulfilling God’s desire “That all should be saved and come to the knowledge of truth” (1 Timothy 2:4). As a parish of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, we live the Gospel of Jesus Christ’s Resurrection through the sacraments, traditions, and practices delivered to the Apostles and transmitted through the ages within the Orthodox Church.

Through God’s grace and the hard work of Orthodox Christian immigrants to the city of Aurora, St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church was established in 1965 to minister to the western suburbs. Over the decades, our Church has grown to encompass parishioners from the many and varied backgrounds of our local community. We understand our location within the city of Aurora as a covenant with God to sanctify this city, the land, and its inhabitants.

We invite all to come and seek the salvation that comes through the true knowledge of Christ and oneself.

60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Thank you all for your love and support of St. Athanasios. As we celebrate sixty years of our parish, a video was created that showcased the past, present and future. We were fortunate to interview founding members of the church as well as second and third generations of parishioners who gave their insight about their love for this church. A special thank you to Dimitri Moraetes who put this video together. We hope you enjoy!
